Everything you Want to Know About the Apple Universal Dock for iPod
Last year was tough on all of us as the world struggled with recession.
Living on a limited budget was sometimes the only option.
So I took my time to shell out $49 for the Apple Universal Dock–something many would say is an avoidable expense in times like these–but I am happy I made that choice.
Ultimate Docking Solution
If you are looking for the ultimate docking solution for your iPod, you need not look beyond the Apple Universal Dock. You can use it as an elegant and convenient base for syncing, charging, and much more. Compatible with all iPod models, the Apple Universal Dock comes with five Dock Adapters.
You can fit your iPod into a lone Universal Dock using these interchangeable inserts (Dock Adapters). In case you are the proud owner of multiple iPods or iPhones, you can now keep only a single Dock connected to your computer, TV, or stereo.
The Universal Dock comes with the Apple Remote. When your iPod is placed in the Dock and it’s linked to a TV or stereo, you can use the remote to enjoy slideshows, songs, and much more. All that you need to do is to simply select a slideshow, playlist, or video, use the proper buttons, and enjoy.
The Apple Remote has buttons for volume control, play/pause, and forward/back that offer easy remote control.
Using the Apple Universal Dock
At a glance, here are some of the ways you can use the Universal Dock:
- You can connect your computer and the Dock with the cable you received with your iPod or iPhone, and charge the battery by setting up the Dock to sync. You no longer need to plug it in the socket behind your computer.
- You can use a USB Power Adapter to connect an electrical outlet with the Dock, and then place your iPod in the Dock to get your battery charged.
- If you want to play music from your iPod, you can simply use a stereo audio cable to link the Dock either to a stereo or to speakers.
- You no longer need to move across the room to reach your controls, since the Apple Remote lets you control playback even from a distance.
- If your iPod can play video, you can use a Composite AV Cable or a Component AV Cable to enjoy videos, slideshows, or photos on a TV or any other video device.
$49 doesn’t appear to be huge sum after seeing how much the Apple Universal Dock can contribute to entertainment.

What if you have an iphone AND various different ipods – can you use the universal dock with them all, or do you have to put in a different Dock Adapter each time?
Thanks, Peter
